Hi,
I wondered if anyone had any idea how i could get hold of degus through a rescue. I live in the West Midlands/Staffordshire area and i haven't a clue where to start. They have two at my local pets @ home store but i think a rescue may be better. |

Definitely a rescue... I try to avoid PaH wherever possible. they really are clueless, and just out to make money! Rant over... soap box anyone?! _________________ I am the loving pet of three cats, two chickens, a house rabbit, a gerbil, eight degus (and their rather unexpected offspring!) |

| i am struggling to find a rescue in my area though, i don't really want to travel that far because of transporting them back. Does anyone know where i might start when trying to track a rescue and degus down. I really wanted to get them this weekend. |

I've asked my friend the rescue she works at has non in at the moment which is unusual. Have you tried local RSPCA? Or have a look through rehoming ads online there are a few about and someone might be in your area _________________

Sorry to gate crash, but I know of two degu needing a home in a pah rescue. Both males living tgether around 5 months old.
It's in Swindon though, so quite far!
Also, amethystbelle,
what's your opinion on fostering from PAH rescue, obviously buying from them is bad as you're funding them, but if I was to adopt the two degu needing a home with the intention to find them a forever home, is that a good idea or a bad one?
it's just so hard seeing them in there, knowing i could look after them for a while whilts I find a new home that I could homecheck aswell,
let me know what you think

I've nothing against giving the rescues a home as they have been handed in by someone who can no longer look after them by no fault of their own. Its just the idea of buying degus from them to fund them getting more in. If you think you can give them a home go for it _________________

I wouldn't be offering a permenant home, as I'm on waiting lists for rats, but i know its quite a while off, so I thought I cuould put a cage and my time to good use, by looking after them for now and looking at getting them a good permenant home.
I know it's as long as a peice of string, but roughly how long do you think it would take me to find them a home, i just can't bare the thought of some1 getting them from the rescue section on a whim and knowing nothing about them. Or even worse, them staying in that tiny cage for much longer! |

| Hi SarahP, there are two girls at Coventry RSPCA right now. A mother and daughter (the daughter is the offspring of one of my degus - they all came in from a pet shop together), the daughter would be about 8 months old I think, she was teeny back in January when I adopted my boys. |
