hi
I'v 2 questions about my two degus max and paddy in general they get on really well, but of late paddy keeps biting max's tail, max makes a high pitched noise, but does not make any attempt to get away.
Also when i put their sand bath in the cage, paddy has a bath but max doesnt he just uses it has a toilet
any ideas on how i can stop him doing this.
cheers |

The tail biting sounds like dominence, they will sort themselves out. Just keep an eye on them
Regards the sandbath there is not a lot you can do about it, the usual trick is not to leave it in the cage but it sounds like you don't already so its something you will have to put up with. I leave my guys sand in 24/7 and to be honest they aren't that bad at using it as a toilet. I also tend to sieve my sand once a week as it makes it last longer _________________

Hi cheeres for reply, i also thought it may be dominance but they have been together now for almost 6 months and the tail biting has only just started. also it only happens when max is standing in a certain place in the cage, but yet he keeps going back to same place and not moving away when paddy bites him, seems very odd to me.

They go through phases i've found. Sometimes its the season and other times its all down to do with territory which it sounds like is the case with your boys. Obviously Paddy has claimed an area as his and whenever Max goes into it he nips him to tell him to move but Max is standing his ground. They will sort themselves out, 6 months is about the time it takes for them to truely settle and come out of their shells properly. I wouldn't over worry unless the nipping becomes more serious _________________
