They do indeed bite their own nails in order to keep them trim. Unfortunately i don't think it works too well as most degus tend to still have sharp nails no matter how much they chew on them  _________________

Oh so i wasn't seeing things
The first time i held a Degu i thought it was biting me but it was just his sharp nails where he was clinging on to me as he didnt know me and was scared. _________________ * Ann *

Yes they do tend to be pretty sharp, one slid down my back the other day and left his mark I keep rocks in my boys cages to try and keep them trim so when they scramble over them it wears them down  _________________
