OK I really wish i'd been on the forum a bit longer before asking this...I don't wanna sound like a pervert...

Is it normal for males to "play with themselves"? I've caught both Emile and Remy doing this today. Sorry if i'm asking something really stupid, I was just a bit worried after seeing the first one do it maybe that there was an infection/something painful, but now i've seen the second I thought maybe it is just something they do?

This is perfectly normal behaviour. You see it in most mammalian species, including degus (and humans  Laugh out loud )

My boy used to do it all of the time before he was neutered. It's nothing to worry about.

There's never a question too weird or too gross!

These kinds of topics are only embarrassing to the human species! LOL  But, being Degu parents, sometimes we have to ask about even the embarrassing topics.  This is a safe plac to do that.

Degus are so comfortable with themselves though, this kind of topic causes them zero embarrassment. Wink

PS - I've only ever had girls, so can't help with the question.  Just wanted you to know you don't need to feel embarrassed!

I don't really feel embarrassed, I was just a bit worried i'd be branded a troll! At least I know its normal now.

The OH and I were once at a zoo videoing the lemurs...didn't realise quite what we'd videoed until we were at home watching it! They were a breeding pair...but I think someone needed to tell him that Wink

Oh yes welcome to the joys of degu ownership Big Smile  Its a shock the first time you notice them doing it but its perfectly natural  Wink

Its a real conversation piece if you keep them in your living room. My Grandma once asked me what they were doing, i replied washing thoroughly  Embarassed  I now have an animal room Wink

When we bought our first pair there was one doing exactly that - we didn't choose him LOL Smile

Our 4 have never been caught doing such deeds but maybe they wait till we aren't around???

He was so engrossed in it! The little.....Any other time he wouldve created a fuss had I kept touching him!! the tike!
