aaaawwwww thats wonderful news  It has made my day to hear Beti is home as i had been thinking about him all day  Give him a hug from all of us
The stuff you mentioned sounds like recovery food that they give animals who won't eat as it feeds them and helps them regain their strength. If he isn't interested in solid food yet, you could try mashing some of his pellets up with water to make a puree that he could lick up

Hi degu rock! My name is Beti, I live in Slovenia, I'm 10 months old. Few days ago I had an operation which I almost did not survive. This moment I'm better, I'm in my own cage, surrounded with my stuff and people I know the best. I just miss my Lili so very much. Now I can eat alone and drink, I've missed hay too. The stitches are uncomfortable but I live. So I wanted to thank you for all your thoughts and blessing which grow warm my heart. For knowing that kind of precious people still exist it is worth to keep on going! With love, Beti degu. |

He is eating and drinking normally and we gave him Lili. I don't know we observe them but they are not the same. Both of them. Not yet. Beti is missing the wheel but we are afraid to put it back in the cage because we afraid something might happened. They are with us in the kitchen so we have eyes on them. The main problem is Beti would like to in breed Lili again and again but he can't. He has a problem and than he acts very strange if you know what I mean. He didn't loose instinct. We must wait and be patient.

This question might seem weird but we must now the true.
Beti is with Lili for 2 days now and we are with them all the time (in case something happen). Soon after they were together Beti wanted (just like in old days) mate with her. He will go on her and in some moments the mating ends. He licked penis and there were mating calls. The vet said he could now- although his testicles are surgically removed, do it -but there were be no sperm.
He is on her couple times a day(he has still sexual instinct), but nothing happens. Lili is waiting under him and he is trying and trying so hard. Is that so: can't he put penis anymore in her vagina? Never again?
We see all that disturb him very, like he wonder what is going on?! He acts disappointed and sleeps a lot, all though he isn't give up. It seems because of that Lili has taken a control and she wants to dominate.

Just because he can't actually do the deed anymore (i.e get Lilli pregnant) it doesn't stop the urge, in time he might quieten down. Degus also mount as a sign of dominence (my males all mount one another and there is always a lot of squeaking) so maybe he is saying to Lilli look i'm back now and i'm in charge

He still has his penis and he can still have intercourse he just can't get Lilli pregnant anymore. In time he should calm down it will just take time for his body to adjust as at the moment his hormones will be all over the place and they need time to settle back down as he has been through a huge change (the operation). Give him a little time and i'm sure he won't be as bad. Did the vet say how long he should be on his own before putting him back with Lilli?

He said after 2 or 3 days he can be with her as we did. Maybe too soon? The most of animal should in one month totally recover, he said. Yes I know it takes time,,....and I know we are all so impatient. They are so funny.  |
